Sapa Group

The Sexual Aggression Peer Advocates (SAPA) are college students trained to help when you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, harassed, abused, or stalked.

SAPA Crisis Line Provides:

  • On-call service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during CMU fall/spring semesters.
  • Free advocacy to CMU students.
  • Crisis intervention.
  • Medical & law enforcement assistance.
  • Legal advocacy.
  • Support for friends of survivors.
  • Counseling referrals.
  • Confidentiality
  • Someone to share your experience with.

Peer Advocates:

  • Each advocates receives 50+ hours of training per year. They attend two intensive training weekends at the beginning of each school year. All advocates are unpaid volunteers who attend CMU and have confidentiality under the Dean of Students Office, and as trained Sexual Assault Crisis-line workers. Interested persons may fill out an application
  • Peer advocates present educational programs to campus, & community agencies. Programs are offered free of charge to all campus groups & classes, on a variety of issues. Details are listed on our program page.

Program Structure & Specifics:

The phones for the crisis line are cell phones which are on at all times. They are rotated between teams, which consist of four to five advocates per team. A more comprehensive diagram of this system is available HERE.

Sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment, & abusive relationships all create trauma.
